Test procedures:

1.      Clean the end face of the test optical fiber and connect it with the output port of the OTDR.

2.      Set the test modes and test conditions through [Parameters].

3.      Press down <Test> button. Then the OTDR will test and the wave-form curve will be displayed on the screen.


Statement of test modes:

1.      The test modes are: real-time test, average test and automatic test.

2.      Real-time test: Set up the test conditions manually to test and analyze the optical fiber. The wave form will be displayed real-timely. Press down <Test> button again or <Back> button to stop test.

3.      Average test: Set up the test conditions manually. The tester will do average processing during the test procedure. After the test, the wave-form curve will be displayed.

4.      Manual test: The tester will set up the test conditions automatically and will test and analyze the optical fiber.


Statement of test conditions:

1.        The test conditions including: wavelength, range, pulse width, attenuation, average times, refractive index and so on.

2.        Under the real-time test and average test mode, you should set up the proper test conditions according to the test optical fiber. The range must be greater than the length of optical fiber.

3.        Small pulse width could gain small dead zone but the SNR will be small. Great pulse width could test farther distance but the dead zone will be bigger.

4.        The attenuation is usually set up to 5dB. The setup of refractive index and the cable coefficient must be corresponding with the test fiber.


How to get the test result?

1.      After finishing the fiber test, the tester will do events analysis automatically and the events will be marked on the wave-form curve directly. The cursor will automatically move to the place of the first event. Below the wave form area, every event will be displayed in a single line and you can use up and down button to browse. When you browse a certain event, the cursor on the wave-form curve will focus on the corresponding event place automatically.

2.      You can also get the event list through [Event List]. In the event list, you can browse all the test results.


The reason why optical fiber curve can not be tested out:

1.      Check the flange of the OTDR optical output port is broken or polluted. Use the absolute ethyl alcohol to clean the flange or change a new one.

2.      Check the optical fiber end face is polluted or not. Use the absolute ethyl alcohol to clean the end face.

3.      Check the connector type of the test optical fiber whether is corresponding with the connector type of the OTDR optical output port or not. If they are not corresponding, great loss will be caused and the optical fiber curve will not be tested out.

4.      Use the VFL function to check the near-end of the test fiber link is high loss or broken.


The reason why error of loss test is greater:

1.      Observe whether there is a smearing in the near-end of the reflection peak low-going edge. If there is a smearing, please clean the end face of the fiber and choose proper test conditions.

2.      Observe whether the marks are in the linear zone of the test curve. The marks should be in the linear zone of the curve.

3.      Observe whether the SNR of the test curve is smaller or not. Adopt the average test mode and set up bigger average times to improve the SNR of the test curve.


The reason why error of length test is greater:

1.      Observe whether the setup refractive index is corresponding with the refractive index of the test optical fiber through [Parameters>>Refractive]. Please ensure that the value of the two is corresponding.

2.      Observe whether the setup cable coefficient is corresponding with the cable coefficient of the test optical fiber through [Parameters>>Optical Coefficient]. Please ensure that the value of the two is corresponding.

3.      Observe whether the location of the test fiber terminal is accurate or not. The terminal should be located in the take-off point of the reflection peak rising-going edge or in the down point of the mutation to the noise area.


How to do file operation?

1.      Store file: Store the present wave-form curve and test condition into the internal storage file through [File operation >> Store File].

2.      Read file: read the files in the internal storage through [File operation >> Read File].

3.      Transfer file: Insert the U-disk and then transfer files between internal storage and U-disk through [File operation >> Copy File].

4.      When store and transfer files, please ensure that there is enough space of the internal storage or U-disk.


How to do curve operation?

1.      After displaying test waveform or reading history waveform, press left and right button to move the present active cursor (the red one) to the target place. Press down <OK> button to switch the present active cursor.

2.      After pressing down [Curve operation], you can move the wave-form curve through up and down button.

3.      After pressing [Curve operation >> Horizontal], [Horizontal] will turn ruddy pink. Move the present cursor to the target place. At the moment, pressing up and down buttons could zoom the wave form horizontally in the center of the target place. Press the [Horizontal] again; the [Horizontal] button will recover to the original state. Move the wave form again through the up and down button.

4.      The procedure of vertical zoom for the wave form is the same as horizontal zoom.

5.      After a series of operation to the wave form, you can restore the wave form to the original state through [Curve operation>>Restoration]


How to use VFL function?

1.      Connect the test optical fiber with the VFL output port.

2.      Let the OTDR in the state of no test. Press the <VFL> button for about 4 seconds. The VFL light will shine and the red light source is started.

3.      At the moment press down the <VFL> button again, the red light source will work in the flashing mode. Press down the <VFL> button again, the red light source will be closed.

4.      Chose the VFL function to check the high-loss fault points or break points of the short-distance optical fiber.


About the usage and maintenance of the battery:

1.      The temperature range of charging battery: 5~45 Degrees Celsius. The temperature range of long time storage: -20~ 45 Degrees Celsius.

2.      When not using the instrument for a long time, please take out the battery; charge and discharge the battery every 2~3 months.

3.      During the battery storage period, the battery power will naturally decline. Before using the battery, please discharge the battery and then recharge it.

4. Considering the security, you are not allowed to disassemble the battery, strike the battery or put the battery into the fire.


Matters needing attention:

1.      Don not use sharp objects to click LCD; do not use organic solvents to clean the LCD screen.

2.      When the VFL function is started, please do not look at the test optical fiber directly as well as the end of optical fiber; do not use the OTDR to test the optical fiber with any optical signal.

3.      Power adapter: You must use the factory supplied power charger because the use of other charger may damage the instrument.

4.      The battery of the instrument is the Li-ion battery. You can not use other batteries.


How to do system upgrade?

1.        Download the upgrade program under the root directory of the U-disk first.

2.      After connecting the U-disk and the tester, click the [Management >> Upgrade]

3.      The tester will automatically detect the need for upgrade. For example, if the upgrade is successful, the system will restart and display :Upgrade successfully; if you do not need to upgrade, the system will popup the prompt :It is the latest version and no need to upgrade .

4.      Please ensure that the U-disk and the equipment are always in the state of connection during the process of upgrade.


Other related statement:

1.        Do not disassemble equipment without authorization.

Unauthorized disassembling the instrument, you will automatically lose the guarantee qualification.

2.        Removing the firm screw or the seal, you will automatically lose the guarantee qualification.

3.        Due to abnormal use of instruments, damage or performance degradation caused by an irresistible force, the tester is not covered under warranty.
